June 12, 2015 — Liberty County aerospace manufacturer Alcoa Forgings and Extrusions was recently named the 2015 International Business of the Year by the World Trade Center Savannah.

The Alcoa Forgings and Extrusions facility in Midway manufactures nickel and titanium-based critical rotating discs that serve both the aerospace and nuclear markets, with 50 percent of the company’s revenue related to global business.

The World Trade Center Savannah International Business of the Year Award recognizes companies that excel in international trade and acknowledges the importance of trade to the Savannah region’s economy. Alcoa is the second Liberty manufacturer to receive the award; SNF Inc. was a recipient in 2013.

The award was presented June 11 during the 2015 Business Expo & Awards Banquet presented by the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce and the Savannah Morning News.

Firth Rixson Forgings, a United Kingdom-headquartered company, constructed the 200,000-square-foot closed-die forging facility in 2010 and announced an expansion to 240,000 square feet in 2011. In November 2014, Alcoa acquired Firth Rixson.

Chris Bohlmann, General Manager of the Midway plant, accepted on behalf of the company.

Liberty County Development Authority CEO Ronald E. Tolley said Alcoa is a deserving recipient for the award.

“Over the last several years, Firth Rixson has created career opportunities for transitioning soldiers, military veterans and engineers alike,” Tolley said. “We are proud to see the company recognized for the impact of its global trade, and look forward to its continued success as part of Alcoa.”
